Working towards Victoria's cancer reform

The PICS is part of the Victorian Government’s broader cancer reform strategy described in A Cancer Services Framework for Victoria and is committed to achieving relevant targets of the Victoria’s Cancer Action Plan 2008-2011 (VCAP) and the Supportive care policy for Victoria through the strategic goals as outlined in the PICS Strategic Plan 2009-12.

Victoria’s Cancer Action Plan

Released in December 2008, VCAP outlines a vision for cancer reform that offers standardised and high quality cancer care to all Victorians, regardless of whether they live in metropolitan, regional or rural Victoria. VCAP is a comprehensive action plan with measurable targets across four key action areas; prevention, research, treatment and support. The PICS key priorities for 2009-12, as outlined in the Strategic Plan, link directly to the VCAP action areas.

Supportive care policy for Victoria

The supportive care policy aims to promote a population-based, person-centred, strategic approach to the provision and enhancement of supportive care for all Victorians affected by cancer. The policy identifies four core strategic directions for supportive care in Australia. The PICS Strategic Plan 2009-12 aligns with the strategic directions outlined in the Supportive care policy for Victoria.

Integrated Cancer Services priority areas

In addition to VCAP and the Supportive care policy for Victoria, the PICS is committed to achieving best practice outcomes for the four Victorian Government priority areas for service improvement at the Integrated Cancer Service (ICS) and statewide level.
