Supportive care
Supportive care |
| Defined by the Department of Health (DH) as an umbrella term used to refer to services that may be required by those affected by cancer, supportive care includes self-help and support, information, psychological support, symptom control, social support, rehabilitation, spiritual support, palliative care and bereavement care. Supportive care in cancer refers to the following domains: physical needs, psychological needs, social needs, information needs and spiritual needs. The PICS is regularly involved in the development of models of care for supportive care within its partner sites. For example, the PICS has documented models of care delivery for dietetics and nutrition and long term follow-up. In addition, the PICS has emphasised a strong commitment to continually striving to better supportive care services for children with cancer in the PICS Strategic Plan 2009-12. |
