Aim:
The purpose of the study day is to provide the nurse with an overview of the safe handling, administration and management of chemotherapy agents. Basic cell biology, the pathophysiology of cancer, chemotherapy agents and their side effects, as well as specific treatment regimens and patient management are reviewed. Recommended for all nurses who care for a child receiving chemotherapy treatment, in particular the paediatric oncology patient.

This study day provides the basis for nurses employed by The Royal Children's Hospital and Monash Children's, Southern Health to pursue chemotherapy accreditation. Attendance at the Introduction to Paediatric Oncology study day is a prerequisite.
