Bone marrow transplant in children

Bone marrow transplant in children

As the largest Australian Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Service, the RCH Children’s Cancer Centre provides allogeneic BMT services to children with high risk leukaemias and a number of non-malignant conditions as well as autologous stem cell support for solid tumours.

The PICS completed the documentation of a model of care for BMT. The overall purpose of this project was to develop and cost a future best practice model of care for bone marrow transplant (BMT) services for children / adolescents with cancer or other relevant conditions and their families.

The service model was guided by evidence from the literature, consultation with stakeholders and parents, work log data and a benchmarking exercise with interstate BMT services. The health service is currently considering the model of care with the RCH Children’s Cancer Centre to establish an appropriate implementation plan.
