| On 1 July 2010 the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme came into effect, administered by the AHPRA, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (refer to www.ahpra.gov.au). It regulates the following health professions relevant to paediatric oncology: Medical Practitioners, Nurses, Dental Practitioners, Pharmacists, Physiotherapists and Psychologists. Consequently all Institutions providing healthcare services have a responsibility for managing clinical quality and risk on behalf of its consumers. Integral to this, in our context, is to ensure that all paediatric oncology care professionals continue to have appropriate qualifications and training to provide safe and effective clinical care relevant to their role and scope of practice. All Health Care Organisations will have individually specified avenues to pursue such continued training. In addition to sessions and courses offered in the PICS Education Program, there are many other learning opportunities we recommend. These are listed below: • Professional Conferences and Seminars • Peer support, mentoring opportunities • Clinical meetings and case study reviews • Department based inservices • Journal Clubs / Ward rounds • Handovers / rotating presentations • Clinical study and paper analyses • Quality Assurance projects • Multidisciplinary projects • On Line Learning packages Nurses can also refer to The College of Nursing to help with Professional Practice Portfolio, CV and Continuing Education development strategies http://www.nursing.edu.au/display.aspx?PageID=0&MemberID=0&screenheight=768&screenwidth=1024# |
